EU warranty notice for WooCommerce: what changes on 27 September 2026

If you sell goods through WooCommerce to EU consumers, 27 September 2026 is a date to put on your review calendar. Commission Implementing Regulation (EU) 2025/1960 applies from that date and sets the design and content of the harmonised notice on the legal guarantee of conformity and the harmonised label for a commercial guarantee of durability.

This is not a shortcut to a legal conclusion about a particular shop. It is a useful prompt to check that your pre-contract information, product data, and storefront presentation are reviewed for the goods and markets you serve.

Start with the distinction: legal notice versus GARAN

The legal-guarantee notice and the GARAN label are related, but they are not the same thing.

The EU legal-guarantee notice reminds consumers of their legal guarantee of conformity. The Regulation describes it as a mandatory notice at the point of sale. It is separate from any commercial guarantee a seller or producer may offer.

GARAN is the harmonised label for a voluntary commercial guarantee of durability. It is relevant only where a producer offers a qualifying guarantee: at no additional cost, for the entire good, and for more than two years. A GARAN label is not a generic warranty badge to add to every product.

The official Regulation is the source for the date and the distinction. It also sets the official notice/label design and identifies the limited label fields that may be completed: duration, producer name, and model identifier.

A practical WooCommerce review list

For each affected sales flow, work through these questions with the person who owns your legal and product information:

  1. Where does your customer see the pre-contract information in the product and checkout journey?
  2. Are you using the official legal-guarantee notice without changing its fixed content or design?
  3. Does any product actually have a producer durability guarantee that meets the GARAN conditions? If not, do not display GARAN for that product.
  4. Where do your product, checkout, and customer-email configurations draw their language and product data from?
  5. Who will re-check the presentation when you change a theme, checkout, or product catalog?
